Atvars Retreat

Northwest of Olympia, WA, outside of the sleepy town of Shelton, rests tiny Lake Kursa.  Here the Atvars are building a retreat to escape the grind of the big city.

The retreat lies hidden in the woods of the West Coast Latvian Education Center’s, Latvian Village. Here is a satellite photo of the center, with the Atvars property highlighted:

Construction began in the summer of 2003, with the clearing of the 1/4 acre construction site. After much research, the family decided to purchase a cabin “shell” package from Canadian company, Viceroy Homes.  The “shell” package would provide blueprints, engineering, framing, roofing, windows, doors, and siding.  The Atvars would provide the foundation, septic, mechanicals, and finish work.

The cabin plan the family chose was called the Lausanne, a two story chalet. 3 bedrooms, two baths, and open public spaces made this floorplan ideal for this retreat!

As construction progresses, the Atvars family will maintain a photo journal of the progress. It is an exciting and interesting experience to do this project, and the family hopes that all the effort will bring many years of enjoyment of the retreat and all the beautiful spaces around it!.
